Today Roger and I went to "The Spar" in Old Town Tacoma for our regular Sunday night blues music and got to witness something really neat.
It gets really crowded in there, so seating is at a premium- one of the band members asked us if some guests of honor could sit at our table (since we were down in front)
We said sure, and made room (at this point we didnt even know who was playing tonite)
As it turns out a couple came and sat down and started talking with us about something that they did for the singer of the band. The singer is a guy name LeRoy Bell, he had a number 1 single in the 70's and earned a gold record for it. He also writes music for a number of other singers and his uncle was a writer for alot of the older Motown singers.
Well, the couple that sat with us was shopping at an antique mall here in Tacoma in 1994 and they found and bought a gold record to hang in the husband's music room as a decoration...it was the original gold record that LeRoy had earned and somehow had gotten stolen from him...we heard two scenarios, one was his Father's house was robbed and another band member said his girlfriend at the time threw it out!!
Anyway, the band was so honored and thrilled that this couple had tracked them down and contacted them and made it right by giving it back.
It was heartwarming and very nice to see...It was by far my favorite band we have heard down there and they just released a new CD ..he has an amazing voice!! Of course I didnt have my camera, but the wife of the couple took lots of pics and she offered to send me some, hope she does!
